As the lead developer for the Asian American Federation’s datacenter microsite, I embarked on an ambitious project to create a custom WordPress theme and plugin to effectively display the organization’s data. This microsite was designed to serve a crucial role in disseminating information about Asian American demographics in the Tri-State area. My primary goal was to develop a platform that was not only visually appealing but also highly functional, ensuring that the data, especially complex Tableau charts, was accessible and easy to interpret.
The project required me to leverage my full range of skills in front-end development. I built the WordPress theme from scratch, ensuring it was responsive and optimized for various devices and screen sizes. This was crucial to cater to a diverse audience, including policy makers, researchers, and the general public. Integrating Tableau charts into the WordPress environment was a significant challenge. I developed custom plugins and used advanced coding techniques to embed these interactive charts seamlessly. This integration was pivotal in providing real-time, interactive data visualizations, making the complex demographic data comprehensible and engaging for all users. My work on this project not only enhanced the accessibility of valuable data but also set a new standard for how such information could be presented effectively in a digital format.
