In the redesign of the Northern Illinois Food Bank’s website, my role was to help guide the UX design and lead both the front-end and back-end development on WordPress. The project aimed to enhance the website’s functionality and user experience, reflecting the organization’s commitment to providing over 250,000 meals per day across 13 counties as part of the national Feeding America network.
A significant part of my contribution was developing a library of interchangeable components, ensuring flexibility and consistency throughout the site. This approach allowed for a cohesive user experience and streamlined content management.
I focused on theming core elements and building a robust back-end system to manage various layout components and features. One of the key functionalities I integrated was a food bank locator tool. This feature was crucial for users seeking to connect with food banks, enhancing the community’s access to vital services.
Additionally, I implemented an integrated donation component, seamlessly connecting the website to Northern Illinois Food Bank’s existing Blackbaud donation system. This integration was vital for facilitating user donations, a critical aspect of the organization’s operations.
The redesigned website emerged as a user-friendly, efficient platform, significantly improving access to services and support for the Northern Illinois community.
